Arrow of Courage Pendant - The Meaning Behind
The Courage to Keep Moving Forward
An arrow is created for forward motion.
It is shaped with direction and designed with a destination in mind. Once released, it leaves where it has been and moves toward what lies ahead.
Our lives do not always feel that purposeful.
There are seasons when we know exactly where we are going, but there are also seasons when we feel stuck between the life we have known and the life God may be calling us toward. We can become trapped by regret, discouraged by setbacks, or afraid of making the wrong move.
Yet God continues to call us forward.
“Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal…”
— Philippians 3:13–14
You Were Not Created to Live Looking Backward
Our past can teach us, but it was never meant to imprison us.
All of us carry memories we wish we could change—decisions we regret, opportunities we missed, seasons we lost, or versions of ourselves we have worked hard to leave behind. If we are not careful, we can spend so much time looking backward that we lose sight of where God is leading us now.
Paul did not write about forgetting the past because his past was easy. Before following Christ, he had persecuted Christians and caused tremendous pain. He could not change what he had done, but he refused to allow it to become the end of his story.
He received the grace of Jesus and pressed forward.
Moving forward does not mean pretending the past never happened. It means allowing God to redeem it. We can learn from where we have been without continuing to live there.
Your past may explain part of your story, but in Christ, it does not have the authority to write your ending.
The Purpose of Being Pulled Back
Before an arrow moves forward, it must first be pulled backward.
That tension can feel like the opposite of progress. The farther the arrow is drawn back, the more it may appear to be moving away from its destination.
Life can feel that way too.
A disappointment, delay, closed door, or unexpected change may make us believe we are losing ground. We may wonder why God has allowed us to be pulled away from the plans we thought He had given us.
But being pulled back is not always the same as being pushed backward.
Sometimes God uses seasons of tension to prepare us. He develops patience, strengthens our character, corrects our direction, and teaches us to depend on Him rather than our own understanding.
What feels like a setback may become part of the preparation for what comes next.
We may not understand the tension while we are living through it, but we can trust that God still knows where He is leading us.
Direction Matters More Than Speed
An arrow moving quickly in the wrong direction will never reach its intended destination.
We often become impatient with the pace of our lives. We compare our progress to someone else’s and wonder why we are not farther ahead. We see their achievements, answered prayers, or new beginnings without seeing the road God has asked them to walk.
But faithfulness is not measured by how quickly we arrive.
Sometimes moving forward means taking a bold leap. Other times it means taking one small, obedient step. It can look like asking for help, beginning again, making amends, leaving behind an unhealthy pattern, or continuing to pray when we have not yet received an answer.
God is not asking you to move at someone else’s speed. He is asking you to follow His direction.
A slow step taken with God is still progress.
Courage Is Moving While You Are Still Afraid
Courage does not mean the absence of fear.
It means deciding that fear will not determine your direction.
We sometimes wait to feel completely confident before taking the next step. But throughout Scripture, God often called people forward while they still felt uncertain. Moses felt inadequate. Gideon felt too small. Esther faced great risk. Peter stepped onto the water while the storm was still raging.
Their courage did not come from believing they were strong enough. It came from trusting that God would be with them.
You may not feel ready for the next chapter. You may still have questions, doubts, and memories of what went wrong before. Faith does not require you to see the entire path. It asks you to trust the One who does.
Courage often begins with a simple prayer: “God, I am afraid, but I will follow You anyway.”
Letting God Aim Your Life
An arrow cannot aim itself. It must be placed in the hands of the archer.
We may have our own ideas about where life should take us, but true purpose is found when we place our plans in God’s hands. This kind of surrender can be difficult because it requires us to release control over the outcome.
God may redirect us. He may ask us to wait. He may lead us toward something we never would have chosen for ourselves.
But His vision reaches farther than ours.
When we allow God to aim our lives, we can move forward without needing to understand everything. Our confidence is no longer in our ability to predict the future. It is in the faithfulness of the One directing us.
We may not know exactly where the journey will lead, but we can trust that a life placed in His hands is never without purpose.
Grace Gives Us Permission to Begin Again
Sometimes the hardest step forward is the first one after we fall.
Failure can convince us that we have ruined our opportunity, wandered too far, or disappointed God too deeply. Shame tells us to remain on the ground. Grace invites us to stand again.
The Gospel is the story of new beginnings.
Because of Jesus, failure does not have to be final. Forgiveness is available. Direction can be restored. A life that has wandered can still be aimed toward a new purpose.
You cannot return to yesterday and choose differently. But you can place today in God’s hands.
That is where moving forward begins.
Why We Created the Arrow of Courage
We created the Forged By Fire Arrow of Courage Pendant as an emblem for the journey ahead.
The arrow represents direction, purpose, and forward movement. Its pointed form reminds us to keep our eyes on what lies ahead, while its journey from tension to release reflects the courage required to trust God through seasons of preparation and change.
Perhaps you are beginning a new chapter, rebuilding after a difficult season, pursuing a God-given purpose, or choosing to leave an old life behind. Whatever road you are walking, let the Arrow remind you that you do not need to have everything figured out before taking the next faithful step.
Your journey may include detours. Progress may be slower than you hoped. There may even be moments when life seems to pull you backward.
But God is still able to give your life direction.
You cannot change where you have been. But through His grace, you can choose who you will follow and where you will go from here.
Release the past. Trust God with the direction. Find the courage to keep moving forward.
